Spira Wilhelm's stone is now located in the Buddhist cemetery
in the west of Shanghai. In 1958 all four Jewish cemetries
were moved to this site and became known as the international
cemetry. During the Cultural Revolution all the Western graves
were destroyed. The Chinese Authorites located several stones
in the villages to the West of the city. A request by the
Israeli Consulate to find them an appropriate resting place
has resulted in the headstones being placed in the Buddhist
cemetery. Spira Wilhelm died in Shanghai at the age of 68.
